Hope this hasn't been posted before. I took a million year break from LJ and I'm sure I missed a ton.

Anyhow.

I do not know how to jump, my Saddlebred will hop over a log in the trail but that's as far as we go. ONCE upon a time I showed a Friesian stallion in a flat class that had cross rails, lol. We won it! Just because he knew what he was doing ( Read more... )

I never watched the Pentathlon before, but one of the sports it includes is showjumping, so I expected the athletes competing in it to actually know how to, you know, ride.
Now I'm no showjumper, and I'm certainly not in better form than an Olympic athlete, but I certainly expected something better than this:

Thought I'd share this clip from the BBC's greatest Olympic moments which is unfortunately not available on iplayer. It's not the best quality but it's the 2008 men's showjumping stage of the pentathlon. It didn't go brilliantly. Fingers crossed for better this year!

I saw this recently and thought it was a very good example of someone being a 'passenger' on a horse. I'd imagine this is one hell of a dominant mare and she's certainly been and is being allowed to rear to get where and what she wants, I tend to think theres certainly a lot of; "Oh no, I don't want to go over there, i'll just rear, get a release ( Read more... )

Another underwhelming teen rider trying to claim she's all that and demonstrating some appalling riding to 'prove' it. I hate these attitudes from these kids and hon, that coloured pony would not have gone near that 3ft jump if your instructor hadn't been waving her arms at it. That is all.

I'm glad she's okay and I know accidents can happen to anyone. But shame on whoever her coach is/was for deciding that this level was appropriate for her. She spent atleast half her cources with her knees drawn up into the knee rolls and her feet just floating into the stirrups.
